COUNTDOWN TO THE 1000 MILLAS SPORT

With 120 crews registered, the interest to see the best classic cars in their journey along the roads of the Andean Patagonia grows. The Contest of Elegance will choose the best car of the event. First leg is to be run on Thursday.

Next Wednesday 27 from 03:00pm, the Civic Center of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche will play host to the scrutineering and the 1000 Millas Sport Start Ceremony, for the most important sport regularity competition for classic sports cars in Latin America, to be held in three legs in the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén, organised by the Club de Automóviles Sport.
The 1000 Millas Sport are valid for the Historic Sport Championship under the aegis of the CDA of Automóvil Club Argentino and also for the Triple Crown, comprising the Rally de las Bodegas and Rally de la Montaña, already held.

During last weekend, the 120 cars were loaded on the trucks that will transport them from Buenos Aires to Bariloche, along a journey of 1000 miles.

For this edition, organizers have proposed a new route, with locations that will be used for the first time to run special stages and also new hospitality venues. On the other hand, the CAS approached the communities, working together with the local authorities, involving their people and artists, and also supporting various projects with non-governmental organizations in each town where the race takes place. The Start Ceremony at the Civic Center is scheduled on Wednesday 27 at 03:00pm after the scrutineering of the 120 participating cars, including 18 cars in the Pre-war category. Children and adults are invited to take a close look at these cars that are rarely seen, in a true recreation of the history of the automobile from the ‘30s to the ’80s.

During the start ceremony there will also be musical performances by local artists. The audience will be able to enjoy the performance of La Nube Percussion School that will put 20 musicians on stage performing popular rhythms like candombe, chacarera, cumbia, murga, rock and many more. Then the Orquesta del Bicentenario Bariloche will take to the stage. This group was created in 2013 and has allowed more than 400 boys and girls to play instruments like violin, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, traversal flute, bassoon, trombone, trumpet, French horn, oboe and percussion.

The Contest of Elegance will take place on Wednesday evening, at the Llao Llao Hotel. This Contest of Elegance, as in the iconic races of this motorsport category in the world as the Mille Miglia, the Tour Auto or the Festival of Goodwood, is to select the best car or Best of Show.

After the intense activity of Wednesday 27, on Thursday 28 cars and crews will take the roads to perform the special stages. The competition will take participants to the most touristic cities of southern Andes from San Carlos de Bariloche to Villa La Angostura, San Martín de los Andes, Junín de los Andes and El Bolsón, along the scenic path of the 7 Lakes.

Based in San Carlos de Bariloche, the traditional competition comprises three stages in the provinces of Rio and Neuquén. Route is almost 1300 km long, including six totally new special stage sections. There are almost 100 crews entered. Closing of entries is scheduled for next week.

Thirty days before the start of the 31st edition of the 1000 Millas Sport, the organization confirmed the itinerary of the event, which will be based in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, with three legs along roads in the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén, visiting the most beautiful cities of the Patagonian Andes. The competition will be disputed under the modality of regularity sprint from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 November, along a route of 1260 km.

The competition is organised by the Club de Automóviles Sport and is open to the participation of classic sports cars of all times, with almost a hundred crews already confirmed from both Argentina and abroad. The 1000 Millas Sport are valid for the Historic Sport Championship supervised by the CDA of the Automóvil Club Argentino  (ACA) and also for the Triple Crown, a contest that also comprises the Rally de las Bodegas and the Rally de la Montaña.

Daniel Claramunt summed up the changes in the route: “On a sporting level there will be six totally new special stage sections for the crews. There are also new hospitality locations, that is to say the stops the caravan makes between the special stages. The Elegance Contest venue will also be new for the 1000 Millas Sport.”
